After you’ve bought your domain and completed Level 1, the most important part of our email setup adventure is to go to your DNS settings and set up domain forwarding. Let’s get into it.
2.1. Forwarding Setup 🔀
The idea is that we set up forwarding so that the emails you receive from the alternate domains and accounts reach your main domain. If we use multiple domains and a dozen email accounts for cold outreach, setting up forwarding means we’ll get all our emails in a single inbox, reducing the chance of missed replies and important updates.
Here’s why setting up forwarding can help your cold outreach efforts:
- Single inbox management: All emails from multiple sources get to one place, which means there’s no need to switch between accounts and ensures no messages are missed.
- Increased responsiveness: With a single inbox, you can reply faster, which means a better engagement rate and increased conversion rates.
- Better tracking: Email forwarding keeps all your conversations organized, so it’s easier to follow up and stay on track with your prospects.
- Backup & security: Forwarding emails to a backup inbox gives you extra peace of mind in case something goes wrong with your main email service.
- Improved scalability: For teams or anyone who juggles multiple outreach campaigns, sending emails to one central inbox makes it easier to work together and keep an eye on how things are going.
To set it up, find Forwarding, and there you type in your destination URL (main domain) and tick the Permanent (301) forwarding type. It should typically take a couple of minutes for the forwarding to work.
💡 Pro tip 1: Use filters in your main inbox to stay organized. By creating filters or labels based on campaigns, recipients, or email addresses, you’re making your outreach easily trackable.
💡 Pro tip 2: Remember to test your forwarding setup by sending a few emails to make sure they’re landing in the right place - your main domain’s inbox.
💡 Pro tip 3: To stay on the safe side, set up forwarding to a backup email account. That way, if something goes wrong with your main inbox, you’ll still get important replies from your prospects.
💡 Pro tip 4: If you're managing multiple outreach campaigns, try forwarding emails from each one to different inboxes or folders. It'll make it easier to track responses and see how each campaign is performing.
💡 Pro tip 5: Make sure your spam settings aren’t blocking forwarded emails since some providers might accidentally filter them out. Adjust your spam filters to let through emails from trusted accounts.
💡 Pro tip 6: Automation is super handy, but don’t forget to check your forwarding inbox manually every now and then. Tools can miss little details, so staying hands-on helps catch any issues before they become a problem.
